Religious Ed: Grades 6-12
Our Mission, guided by the Holy Spirit, is to cultivate the seeds of Catholic Faith, honor the presence of God in each life, nurture a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ, and foster discipleship.
Emily Hoeschen, Youth Minister
We have a lively and growing religious education program for young parishioners from elementary school to high school. The youth and religious education coordinators work with volunteers to provide classroom sessions, community-service projects and social activities for students.
6th-11th Grade Program
This program starts in September and ends in the Spring. Meetings are held on Wednesday evenings at 6:45-8:30 pm. Each year these students have a specific lesson, perform a service project, have a chance to share their blessings and challenges each week, and explore a different morality component. Opportunities to volunteer include catechists and program specific involvement. Study topics are as follows:
• 6th Grade: Old Testament/Seder Meal
• 7th Grade: New Testament/Gift Bible
• 8th Grade: Church History
• 9th Grade: Creed
• 10th Grade: Liturgy/Study of Sacraments
• 11th Grade: Teen Timeline Bible Study
11th Grade Sacramental Preparation
This program starts each year on Ash Wednesday and runs for eight weeks. Meetings are on Wednesday evenings 7-8:30pm. This program focuses on Lenten reflections and challenges youth to grow in their faith. Study revolves around the learning of each Sacrament with speakers and prayer. Discussions help prepare students for receiving Confirmation in the fall of 12th grade. They also encourage a deeper understanding of how their faith fits into their lives as adults. In addition, the students attend a retreat and fulfill a service project. Opportunities include assisting with retreat and service projects.
12th Grade Fall Liturgy Workshop
This program works hand in hand with the 11th Grade Spring Sacramental Preparation. The workshop focuses on liturgical rolls in the church, and prepares youth to perform these rolls for their Confirmation Mass that is held in the fall months. Student interviews are held either individually or in a group atmosphere with the Pastor and Youth Minister as they complete the final preparations before their Sacrament of Confirmation. Opportunities include helping with the one-day workshop, and Mass of Confirmation.
